Why should one buy Nylon Dog Collars?  Maybe we should start by naming the alternatives.  The first alternative, of course, would be leather.  There is nothing wrong with leather dog collars except they are not waterproof nor can they be washed.  Please don't misunderstand, they can be cleaned with saddle soap or another suitable leather cleaner, you just cant throw them in the washing machine like you can nylon. The second alternative is polypropylene webbing.  Polypropylene webbing is softer than nylon but has about half the break strength and very poor wear quality.  Polypropylene also breaks down in sunlight.  We do not use polypropylene webbing in any of our collars.  The third choice is Polyester webbing.  Polyester webbing is really nice looking and has excellent washability.   Polyester is used in some dog collars, mainly, for making patterned materials or materials that can be printed upon.    We presently do not make anything of polyester webbing because of its poor wear qualities.  There are some companies making dog collars out of hemp.  Hemp is very abrasive and cuts the dog's coat.  Nylon is so versatile that it really makes sense to use nylon to make webbing.  Nylon webbing is very strong and can be dyed any color.  The strength of nylon is amazing, a 3/8" wide 54 thousandths inch thick piece of nylon webbing has a break strength of over 1000 pounds.  The one inch wide nylon webbing we use has a break strength of 4,500 pounds.   With nylon dog collars, you don't have to restrict your self to dark colors because the fabric is ultimately washable.   We recommend washing your nylon dog collars in the wash with your colored wash.  All you have to do is put the product in an old sport sock, tie a knot in the top of the sock and put it in with your other clothing.  When the wash is through, do not put the collar in the dryer.   Take the collar out of the sock and hang it up to dry.    It should look quite new again except for what ever wear there is on the item.  Click here to check out our selection.
