The cure to having trouble with fraying of your cat's collar, may be the suede cat collar.

This is a genuine suede leather cat collar with a stretch elastic band.  Our suede cat collars come in six colors.  Including, red, blue, black, turquoise, tan, and purple.  One of the problems that is experienced by cat owners when they buy nylon collars is that the scratching with the hind claws makes the collar fray and look terrible.  The suede collar, being made of leather will not fray.
